Young Children and Teenagers

Young Children

It is important that young children establish good habits. This includes cleaning thoroughly twice daily and visiting the dentist at least every 6 months. Diet also plays an important part and you can help your child help their teeth by finding alternatives to sugary snacks and fizzy drinks.

As they get older they will start to loose their first set of teeth and we can start to see their adult teeth come through. Sometimes these will need straightening by an orthodontist. We have a good referral system at Dorking Dental Centre with lots of options to see different specialists in the local area.

Prevention is better than cure. Sometimes new teeth can be sharp and trap food, creating a potential Òrot spotÓ. We can protect childrens' teeth from this by putting a seal across them call a Fissure Sealant.

Teenagers

A nice smile is important for a developing teenager, it particularly boosts self confidence. Once good cleaning habits have been established, it is important to start flossing in between teeth for long lasting, healthy gums. If the teeth need straightening, this is a very easy time to wear braces, not only because many other teenagers are also wearing them at this stage, but also because correction is a lot quicker now than later in life. We are fortunate at Dorking Dental Centre to have a very good referral system. We are well known in the local area, enabling us to offer the option of seeing a wide range of specialists.
