What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for CEamic REConstruction
This is an innovative system that allows Dr Smith to make and fit ceramic fillings, crowns and veneers in one visit. Using this ground-breaking technology, your new restoration (tooth) is designed using a 3D computer aided modelling system. This information is then sent directly to a milling machine where your new tooth is fabricated with pinpoint accuracy in about 20 minutes. Finishing touches are added to the restoration before it is fitted in your mouth. The CEREC system has reduced the time required to fit a crown from 2 weeks to under 2 hours!
Not only is it much quicker, using this technology means Dr. Smith only needs to remove decayed tooth from your mouth. With traditional crowns and inlays a lot of healthy tooth was removed to allow the dentist to get enough space to fit the old style crown. By only removing rotten tooth, Dr. Smith has found that he has a much lower incidence of patients needing root canal treatment as less tooth is removed, avoiding possible nerve damage.
Dr. Smith is trained to an exceptionally high standard on the CEREC system regularly attending courses all over the world. Since he started using this technique in 2006, he has completed over 1500 successful restorations and is now classed as a highly advanced user.
